New Delhi: Coronavirus cases are on the rise again in the capital. However, testing for the virus has decreased significantly. It is often observed that people avoid going to hospitals for testing despite having symptoms. Anika Sterilis company has found a solution to this problem. The company has developed an automatic testing machine (ATM) that can determine whether you are infected with coronavirus in just 20 seconds. This printer-sized machine can be installed anywhere to test a large number of people for coronavirus. This machine detects coronavirus infection by analysing the person’s Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs) through breath analysis.
Anika Sterilis Private Limited’s MD Hemant Kumar said that only this company is using this technology for coronavirus infection testing. It has not yet received approval from ICMR. However, medical departments in many other countries have approved it. Hemant said that the company has set up a unit for the production of these machines in Visakhapatnam’s medical hub.
How the sample is taken: Some VOCs develop in the body’s metabolism when there is an infection. By detecting these VOCs it is determined whether the person is infected or not. For testing, a sample is taken by blowing the person’s breath 10 times on a coated sterilized sample card. This card is then placed in the heated desorber of the Covid-19 detector machine. If even a trace amount of VOCs related to coronavirus has developed in the person, this machine will detect it. The test report will be available in 20 seconds from this machine.
